Mary Beth Blackwell-Chapman

Mary Beth Blackwell-Chapman

Artist Statement

Mary Beth has a fascination with stories, sometimes relating to Mythology, sometimes concerned with current world issues, like human rights or refugees, sometimes images a viewer could turn into a story using their own imagination.  Occasionally she has an idea of a form she is working toward but often she begins and goes where her hands lead.

She works primarily with clay, and also with book construction, and fabric.

Currently, she has been making vessels, bottles, and forms she turns into candleholders.  She works with porcelain and earthenware, painting them with underglazes and glazes.
