Betti Pettinati Longinotti

Inspired by Nature

Artist Statement

Betti works in drawing, painting, gel transfer prints and glass. Known for her windows at Temple Emanuel, Winston Salem and her Archive of Women Artists – 140 vitreous paintings on glass. The archive ranges an exploration of vitreous painting on glass, a medium traditionally used in stained glass. Using glass as a metaphor, there are serious implications for my work, as the visual associations to stained glass – icons of the saints and the heroes of the church – have a tradition imbedded still within church art and architecture to today. What I am attempting to do hinges on a religious art aesthetic but redefines the material of glass and portrait icons within the contemporary secular world. The medium is also redefined for the gallery walls, as an alternative to windows. Overall, Betti Pettinati-Longinotti works in drawing, painting and glass. She received a BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art and her MA from the University of the Arts/ Philadelphia, in Art Education with a studio major in Glass; an MFA in Visual Arts through the Lesley University College of Art and Design. Her work has been shown internationally. Betti is a juried member of Artworks Gallery, Piedmont Craftsmen.Betti works autonomously and with commission work. See my website for more details: plstudioartglass.com.
