E. Faye Collins and Inez Ruchte

Artworks Gallery presents a two-person exhibit entitled, "A Closer Look: Curiosity and Wonder", with handmade paper and collage pieces by E. Faye Collins, and black and white photographs by Inez Ruchte.

E. Faye Collins' work, entitled "A Closer Look: Thorns & Tendrils" is a continuation of her interest in the details of plants. Of particular interest to her is the function of thorns and tendrils to the life of some plants and using this as a metaphor for human engagement. Her continued interest in paper-making contributes to these pieces.

Ms. Collins is an avid gardener and patron of trees, an admirer of tomatoes and nature, and a novice birder. She has a BFA and MFA in painting and printmaking from the Univ. of NC at Greensboro. In addition, she studied at Kent State Blossom Festival, Penland and Arrowmont Craft schools, and studied art history in France and painting and art history in Italy.

Inez Ruchte says she tends to "see" the small details of a picture, not the big scene. However, in many of her shots for this show, she has gone against this inclination when she took her photographs in such places as Monument Valley, The Grand Canyon, etc. Ms. Ruchte has been a member of Artworks since 1993. She still shoots real film, but scans it to the computer to finish the print.

The opening reception is Sunday, August 8, 2 - 4 pm.

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
