Artworks Gallery is presenting an exhibit of charcoal drawings of clothing and accessoriest by Nanu LaRosee and photographs from Utah and Kenya, among others, by Inez Ruchte.

JacketNanu LaRosee's new work is entitled “Worn”, and consists of charcoal drawings of clothing and accessories from her closet. She has never liked to borrow anyone’s clothes, not her sister’s or college friends’, and she has never enjoyed wearing vintage or used clothing, because of the sense that someone else’s presence resides in them. She says "clothing that has been worn takes on some of the shape and essence of the wearer, and I find it to be uncomfortably intimate. Looking at my own clothing is akin to looking in the mirror—'Yes, that’s me.'"

Nanu LaRosee has been a member of Artworks Gallery since 1991. She has a Master of Library Science from Appalachian State University, a BFA in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis, and went to High School in Visual Arts at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC.

FlowerInez Ruchte is showing photographs that are different from her usual black and white images. She went through 40 years of color slides and made her selections. One will see some travel pictures (Utah and Kenya), some birds and other "critters", and some images using the macro lens to photograph mainly flowers and leaves close-up.

Inez Ruchts has been involved in photography for 60 years. She has never taken any courses in photography, simply learning by trial and error. She has always had her own darkroom. However, she recently started doing her photography on the computer.

The opening reception is Friday, July 4, from 7 - 10pm, coinciding with the Gallery Hop in the Downtown Arts District of W-S.

The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
